About Us

Born from the collaboration of a public institution the private sector,

Within the framework of the fight against the covid-19 virus and in order to limit the arrival of people who are vulnerable in their health to the hospital and to ensure the continuity of their care, the general directorate of health and the Geneva University Hospitals have decided to widely deploy remote consultations by telephone or video consultation via the hug @ home platform.

HUG@home is a teleconsultation service developed by HUG and funded by the HUG private foundation and the Directorate General of Health. It was tested in 2019 in real conditions with patients followed at home by IMAD and in two Elderly homes.

It has started as a tool for professionals, managed by the medical services of the HUG, requiring the use of a computer with webcam, a tablet or a smartphone.

Since the start of the covid crisis, these remote consultations are used in several medical services, including primary care, oncology, pediatrics and cardiology. The system has also been made available to the General Directorate of Health in Geneva, and, to the doctors from the Geneva Association of Doctors.

The patient who accept the principle of remote consultation receives an SMS with a code allowing them to participate in the teleconsultation. Once he / she arrives in the digital waiting room, the patient is contacted by the doctor and the consultation takes place by videoconference.

In order to rapidly expand the use of hug [at] home the tool was made more generic and is now available for larger scale usage under the new name Healthcare worker at home.

This initiative is supported by the HUG private foundation.
